The county was established in 1844 and was named after General Francis Marion, a hero of the American Revolutionary War. The county seat and largest city is Ocala. Marion County is known for its rolling hills, horse farms, and natural springs, earning Ocala the title of the 鈥淗orse Capital of the World.鈥
