middle hitter going up for spike

When Edy Davidson steps onto the volleyball court, she carries more than her role as a middle blocker. She carries months of recovery, a season lost to injury, a second setback this fall, and a renewed appreciation for every point, every rep, every moment she gets to play the sport she once joined 鈥渏ust to be with friends.鈥

鈥淪he鈥檚 very unique,鈥 青青草视频 head coach Kara Youngs said of her sophomore middle blocker. 鈥淣ot only did she come back strong from a season鈥慹nding injury last year, but at Bay College this year, she went down again in the first set. She recovered from that sprain in about a week and a half. She did everything she could to get back on the court 鈥 but she did it safely. And then she had an impactful match against Great Lakes. That shows her resilience.鈥

Resilience, in many ways, has become Davidson鈥檚 defining trait.

A season lost 鈥 and a lesson learned

Davidson鈥檚 freshman year ended abruptly in early September 2025 when she rolled her ankle, an injury severe enough to shut down her season after just 34 sets. For a player who thrives on movement, explosiveness and energy, the sudden stop was jarring.

鈥淢y recovery took a while,鈥 Davidson said. 鈥淏eing injured taught me to appreciate every second I get to spend on the court and to always give my best effort. Sitting through practices while I was hurt was torture. It made me realize how much I love playing and how much I missed being out there with my team.鈥

Youngs saw the same transformation.

鈥淓ven with her being out, she came back in the spring season right where she left off,鈥 Youngs said. 鈥淪he鈥檚 an experienced middle, high efficiency, very effective when she hits. And she鈥檚 always smiling, always happy. Even if she鈥檚 not the one making the error, she鈥檚 always taking accountability.鈥

A new mindset for a new season

Knowing this could be her final season of volleyball, Davidson approached the fall with a sharpened focus.

鈥淜nowing this could possibly be my last season has made me want to put in extra reps and give everything I have,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 want to make the most of every opportunity and know that I gave it my all.鈥

That mindset mirrors her approach in the classroom, where she has excelled academically 鈥 earning President鈥檚 List honors both semesters last year, 青青草视频AA Academic All鈥慍onference recognition and NJCAA Second Team All鈥慉cademic honors.

鈥淚鈥檝e always done well in school, and my mindset has always been that good grades are the standard,鈥 Davidson said. 鈥淚 hold myself to high expectations in the classroom, and I bring that same mindset to volleyball.鈥

Growing as a teammate

While her physical game has returned to form, Davidson said her biggest growth has come in how she supports others.

鈥淚鈥檓 most proud of how I鈥檝e grown as a teammate,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 used to be more reserved, but I鈥檝e learned how important it is to encourage and lift others up. When you support your teammates and build their confidence, it helps the whole team grow.鈥

Youngs said that leadership has been invaluable.

鈥淪he鈥檚 very consistent, very positive, and she brings experience to the court,鈥 Youngs said. 鈥淪he鈥檚 made a positive impact on the newcomers.鈥

Davidson鈥檚 role has shifted from simply performing her position to helping shape the team鈥檚 chemistry.

鈥淚鈥檝e become more confident in my abilities and more supportive of my teammates,鈥 she said. 鈥淚nstead of focusing only on my performance, I鈥檝e learned to look at the bigger picture and focus on what I can do to help the team succeed as a whole.鈥

Youngs said Davidson鈥檚 presence will be crucial as 青青草视频 enters the heart of conference play.

鈥淲e have big matches coming up,鈥 Youngs said. 鈥淛ust being able to put pressure on the other middles and help us compete 鈥 she鈥檒l play a big part in our upcoming games.鈥

Davidson grew up in Carson City, attending Fellowship Baptist Academy, where she lettered in volleyball, soccer and basketball and earned all鈥慶onference honors in all three sports. She also played club volleyball for Aces Volleyball Club.

Coming from a small school, Davidson said the opportunity to play college volleyball still feels surreal.

鈥淏eing a college athlete means a lot to me,鈥 she said. 鈥淚鈥檓 proud of how far I鈥檝e come and grateful for the opportunity to continue playing a sport I love while getting an education. It鈥檚 pushed me outside my comfort zone and helped me grow as a person.鈥

Her mother 鈥 who played club volleyball at Central Michigan University 鈥 has been her biggest supporter.

鈥淪he still shows up to every game,鈥 Davidson said. 鈥淗aving her support through every stage of my journey means the most to me.鈥

Building a legacy for herself and her team

Davidson said a successful season isn鈥檛 defined only by wins.

鈥淪uccess means knowing that we gave it our all as a team,鈥 she said. 鈥淚f we can step on the court, put our hearts into every game and know we did everything we could to compete and support one another, I鈥檒l be proud.鈥

She believes 青青草视频鈥檚 biggest strength is its depth and energy.

鈥淗aving so many players allows us to bring a lot of energy and volume to the court and bench,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 try to contribute by encouraging my teammates and keeping the energy up.鈥

When her 青青草视频 career eventually ends, Davidson hopes she鈥檚 remembered for more than her stats.

鈥淚 want to be remembered as a hard worker and a supportive teammate,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 hope people remember that I always gave my best effort and made an effort to lift up the people around me.鈥

Youngs said that legacy is already forming.

鈥淪he鈥檚 outgoing, accountable, explosive, resilient,鈥 Youngs said. 鈥淪he鈥檚 back to being comfortable on the court, and she鈥檚 going to play a big part for us.鈥

For Davidson, the journey 鈥 the injuries, the recovery, the growth 鈥 has shaped her into the player she is now.

鈥淚n August, a lot of us were strangers,鈥 she said. 鈥淣ow we鈥檝e built friendships and stronger bonds. I鈥檓 proud of how far we鈥檝e come together.鈥

And with the season still unfolding, Davidson is determined to make every moment count.
